On the feast day of Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, August 1, the new icon of the founder of the Redemptorists was presented in the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer in Madrid. The parish priest, José Miguel de Haro, CSsR, performed the blessing ceremony for the image of Saint Alphonsus in the presence of the gathered faithful.
“We celebrate his feast day by blessing the icon written by iconographer María Jesús Fernández. This icon will remain in our parish of the Most Holy Redeemer from this date. We ask Saint Alphonsus to teach us to pray… and to foster in us a moral maturity capable of choosing the true good,” wrote Fr. José Miguel in the invitation on social media.
The parish priest emphasized that on the feast of St. Alphonsus, it is important to highlight and value his theological and spiritual work, which especially calls for “listening to and welcoming the fragility of the most spiritually abandoned men and women.” Furthermore, his testimony as a founder, missionary, and renovator of Catholic morality was celebrated and acknowledged.
