The Redemptorists of Huế began the Triduum in honor of Saint Gerard on Monday, October 13, 2025 in a joyful atmosphere celebrating the 300th birthday of Saint Gerard Majella (1726–2026), with a special event called “The Day of the Poor with Saint Gerard, a day filled with joy, love and fraternal sharing.”
Early in the morning, nearly 400 brothers and sisters in difficult circumstances gathered at the Redemptorist compound in Huế, together with religious, volunteers, and benefactors, to thank God and honor Saint Gerard, who is loved as a friend of the poor, the suffering, and mothers.
During the reflection, Father Dominic Tran That helped the community deepen their understanding of the simple, humble, yet holy life of Saint Gerard, a man who lived fully the spirit of love, service, and self-giving for others. Through his example, everyone was invited to live the same spirit of charity in today’s world.
Joy spread throughout the day with musical performances and fun games with prizes, helping everyone share laughter and build bonds of friendship. The Agape brotherly meal at noon created a warm family atmosphere where all could feel genuine love and care.
After lunch, participants received Saint Gerard’s gifts—small tokens filled with affection. In the afternoon, doctors, and volunteers from the Redemptorists of Huế offered free medical checkups and medicines, caring for both the physical and spiritual well-being of the poor.
The Day of the Poor with Saint Gerard ended in gratitude and happiness. Smiles and handshakes became living signs of the spirit of “Love and Service” that Saint Gerard left behind, a spirit the Redemptorists continue to live out each day in this beloved ancient capital.
Saint Gerard, friend of the poor, pray for us!
Fr. Augustino Phi Le, CSsR.
