On 3 January 2026, there were moments of great tension in cities such as Caracas, Miranda, La Guaira and Aragua. At approximately 1:30 a.m., isolated explosions began to be heard in some parts of these cities, but no one knew what was happening; everything seemed uncertain.

As time passed, social media began to report that it was a bombing, but it was not until almost dawn that the facts became clear, resulting in the news of the capture of the president of the republic and his wife.

It was at that moment that mixed feelings emerged. Some people were happy, not because of the deaths or bombings, but because they felt justice had been served in the face of the barbarity of the country’s dictatorial regime. Others were saddened by the imprisonment of their political leader.

The day was lived with a tense calm, people preferred to remain locked in their homes and the few who went out were frightened to buy something to stock their food stores because they were not sure what was coming for the country.

Now, as Venezuelans, we hope that things can normalise and that the current situation can be resolved with clarity and peace.

Taking into account the call of the Venezuelan Church, we ask for ‘serenity, wisdom and strength’ in the face of the moments and events we are experiencing as a nation. May prayer be the fundamental pillar for God to guide our actions. Let us pray for the eternal rest of the deceased and the speedy recovery of the wounded.
