Four years have passed since the start of the war in Ukraine, and we see no end in sight. Four years of violence, destruction, and suffering for millions. Recent attacks have left many without power and heating, in a winter with temperatures reaching -20°C in Ukraine. Today, 10.8 million people, practically one in three Ukrainians, are in need of humanitarian aid. This figure starkly reflects the devastation that all war inflicts on the civilian population.
From day one, the parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in Madrid has stood with the Ukrainian people. “We could not remain passive in the face of so much suffering,” says its parish priest, José Miguel de Haro CSsR. And that conviction has translated into concrete gestures of welcome, help, and prayer.
The parish, in collaboration with other organizations such as Ayuda Contenedores de Pamplona, has sent trucks with humanitarian aid every three months to Novoyavorivsk, where the Redemptorist community is in charge of distributing the food and material received.
The latest shipment took place on January 29th. The parish, along with the associations Acoger y Compartir (Welcome and Share), Ayuda Contenedores (Container Aid), and the Order of the Temple, loaded another truck in Pamplona bound for Ukraine: more than 23,000 kilos of humanitarian aid. “On the anniversary of the start of the war, the desire for its end is rekindled,” the parish priest noted. And during this Lenten season, he added, “we are looking for ways to send another truck.”
The Archdiocese of Madrid has also acknowledged the continued solidarity and commitment of the Redemptorist missionaries from the Most Holy Redeemer Parish, reporting on the shipments of aid to people in need in various locations affected by the war in Ukraine.
Over the past four years, as reported by Scala News, the Parish of the Most Holy Redeemer in Madrid has sent numerous truckloads of humanitarian aid. It is worth noting their unwavering commitment to this aid, which has effectively reached those most in need in that war zone.
