The Redemptorist Mission in Meghalaya, located in the northeastern region of India, was solemnly inaugurated on March 19th, the Feast of Solemnity of St. Joseph. This significant milestone was marked by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at Jaidoh Chapel at 10:30 a.m., bringing together clergy and faithful in a spirit of gratitude and hope.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Most Rev. Wilbert Marwein, Bishop of the Diocese of Nongstoin. He was joined by Chancellor Fr. George, Provincial superior of Bangalore Province, Fr. Edward Joseph, and several Redemptorist priests, including Fathers Sanjay Kujur, Anthony P. Rajan, Ignace Dungdung, and Nidhin Thomas. Their presence underscored the importance of this moment not only for the local Church but also for the wider Redemptorist congregation.

Following the Holy Mass, a simple yet heartfelt gathering was held to formally welcome the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer—commonly known as the Redemptorists—to the Jaidoh community. Parishioners, filled with joy and anticipation, expressed their support and enthusiasm for the new mission. The celebration concluded with a fellowship lunch, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose among all present.

A large number of faithful attended the event, making the occasion both vibrant and memorable. Their participation reflected the deep faith of the local community and their openness to the pastoral presence of the Redemptorists.

This inauguration marks a decisive turning point for the Redemptorist congregation in India. The mission in Meghalaya opens new avenues for evangelization, pastoral care, and service, particularly among communities in the northeastern region. Rooted in their charism of proclaiming the Gospel to the most abandoned, the Redemptorists begin this mission with hope and commitment.

As this new chapter unfolds, the faithful are invited to keep the mission in their prayers, asking for its fruitfulness and growth. May this beginning become a source of spiritual renewal and a beacon of faith for generations to come.
