On April 24, the Communication Commission of the Redemptorist Conference of Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Province of Brasilia, held an online training meeting with Redemptorist communicators based on the theme “The exercise of leadership in Pastoral Ministry”, with Marcus Tullius (*), Master in Social Communication and Communication Coordinator of Caritas Latin America and the Caribbean.

With simultaneous translation into Spanish, the meeting was attended by Redemptorist confreres, lay people, oblates, graduates and collaborators from Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Venezuela, Argentina, Paraguay, Guatemala and other countries that make up the 7 Provinces of our missionary region in the world.

Among the topics discussed, the advisor emphasized that, for evangelization, the process is more important than the result and that listening is the main characteristic for leadership: “whoever does not know how to listen is not fit to lead,” he emphasized.

He also listed other characteristics of leadership: humility, obedience to God, openness to the Spirit, self-giving, solidarity, balance, and making disciples as a process of building together. Finally, after the training and the question-and-answer session, he concluded: “Being a leader in pastoral ministry invites us to be truly human.”
