The Lenten Catechetical Mission provided a profound opportunity for spiritual renewal, deeper faith formation, and communal reflection as the Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs) journeyed through the Lenten season. Rooted in catechesis, prayer, and shared discernment, the preach mission became an instrument of evangelization that renewed faith and fostered a more committed Christian discipleship. It highlighted Lent not merely as a personal penitential season but as an ecclesial experience of conversion and grace.

This mission was carried out in close integration with the various BECs of the Our Lady of Visitation Parish in Alfonso Lista, Ifugao, Manila. It was initiated by the Redemptorist Vice-Province of Manila, in collaboration with the Redemptorist Northern Luzon mission community currently serving in the area. Mission teams from various local communities of the Vice-Province were invited to participate, embodying the Church’s missionary nature through a shared Lenten journey with the people.

The General Preach Mission featured catechetical modules designed to guide the faithful in reflecting more deeply on their Lenten journey. These sessions offered not only doctrinal formation but also an experiential encounter with a God who accompanies His people. The mission fostered a tangible sense of ecclesial presence, helping the faithful feel visited, remembered, and cared for by the Church. This was further expressed through pastoral activities such as visiting the sick and blessing homes—signs of God’s compassionate and incarnational presence among His people.

From a missiological perspective, the mission strengthened the synodal character of the Church by enabling the BECs to rekindle their identity as communities journeying together in faith. It promoted a renewed understanding of shared responsibility (co-responsibility) between clergy and laity, emphasizing that the Church is a communion of participation and mission. The mission fostered authentic relationships between parishioners and the parish, encouraging dialogue, listening, and mutual accompaniment.

Moreover, the Lenten Catechetical Mission underscored that the Paschal Mystery is not an abstract or distant reality but one that is lived and experienced concretely within the lives of the faithful. It transformed the observance of Lent from a purely private devotion into a communal journey of faith, in which reflection, suffering, hope, and renewal are shared within the community. In this way, the mission made visible a faith that is incarnated in the everyday realities of the people.

The mission concluded with a meaningful culmination as teams from the different local communities of the Vice-Province of Manila gathered in unity to evaluate, give thanks, and celebrate the fruits of the mission. This closing encounter was not only a moment of assessment but also a celebration of God’s grace at work in the community—a testament to the vitality of a Church that listens, accompanies, and journeys together.
