As the sun slowly disappeared beyond the horizon on the evening of June 12, 2026, a spirit of peace settled over the grounds of St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish in Cijantung. The fading light of day gave way to the warm glow of lamps surrounding the church, transforming the usually busy parish grounds into a place of prayer, reflection, and quiet encounter with God.
Soft Taizé melodies welcomed those arriving for the evening prayer service. Their simple and repetitive chants created an atmosphere of contemplation, inviting participants to leave behind the noise of daily life and enter into silence. In front of the church, a prayer space had been carefully prepared with a cross, a Pietà statue, and rows of flickering candles, all contributing to a sacred and welcoming environment.
Even before the service began, young people could be seen sitting quietly in prayer. Soon, families, parishioners, and members of various neighborhood communities joined them. The gathering reflected the diversity of the parish, united in a common desire to pray together.
Among those present was an elderly man seated quietly beneath a tree. With his gray hair and gentle presence, he offered a silent yet powerful witness of faith. Without speaking a word, his presence seemed to communicate a simple message to the younger generation: “I am here with you.” It was a moving reminder that faith is nurtured and passed on through the unity of generations.
As the evening deepened, words became fewer and silence more profound. The community prepared their hearts for the arrival of the Blessed Sacrament.
A short time later, the celebrant emerged from the church carrying the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance. The sound of bells rang through the evening air, and the congregation knelt in reverence. The Blessed Sacrament was placed in the prepared prayer area, marking the beginning of the Taizé Prayer Service.
The gathering formed part of the celebrations for the 47th Anniversary of St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish, Cijantung. This year’s anniversary theme, “Growing in Faith, Moving to Care for Creation,” was complemented by the subtheme, “Catholic Youth rooted in Christ, growing in faith, and working together to care for our common home.”
Although organized and facilitated by the Catholic Youth (OMK), the prayer service was open to all parishioners. It served as a reminder that the parish anniversary is not the celebration of a single group, but of the entire parish family journeying together in faith.
One of the most striking aspects of the evening was the contrast between the surrounding environment and the atmosphere within the prayer gathering. Despite the steady flow of traffic passing outside the church grounds, those present became increasingly immersed in silence and contemplation.
Together, the congregation listened to and sang Taizé chants. Among the songs that echoed throughout the evening was the well-known refrain:
“Bless the Lord, my soul…”
Its simple words became a gentle prayer repeated by many hearts. Other chants followed, interwoven with moments of silence that allowed participants to reflect, listen, and pray.
The prayer service was facilitated by Misel and Randi. Following the Gospel reading, participants gathered in small groups to share their faith experiences and reflect on three guiding questions:
- What experiences have helped my faith grow?
- What challenges make it difficult for us to live our faith and care for the environment?
- As our parish begins a new chapter after 47 years, what can I do to serve the Church and protect God’s creation?
The discussions were sincere and meaningful. Participants shared stories about family life, friendships, ministry involvement, personal struggles, and the many ways they had experienced God’s presence in their lives. The conversations revealed both the challenges and blessings of living faith in today’s world.
The sharing session concluded with prayers of intercession offered by participants, followed by the Lord’s Prayer recited together as one community.
As the evening drew to a close, the congregation received Benediction with the Blessed Sacrament. In the stillness of that sacred moment, many departed carrying with them a renewed sense of peace, hope, and spiritual strength.
Yet the sense of community did not end with the final blessing. After the prayer service, participants gathered for refreshments and fellowship. Friendly conversations, smiles, and laughter filled the night, providing a joyful reminder that faith grows not only through prayer but also through relationships, shared experiences, and walking together as a community.
The parish extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Catholic Youth, the organizing committee, liturgical ministers, volunteers, and all parishioners whose dedication made the event possible.
As St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish celebrates its 47th anniversary, may it continue to deepen its faith, strengthen its commitment to caring for one another and for creation, and remain a welcoming home where all can encounter God’s love.
