The Redemptorist Solidarity Office is pleased to celebrate the completion of the first year of the BCA Program for access to school and learning in Andriaka, Madagascar. This milestone represents a concrete expression of the Redemptorist vision: to stand alongside the poor and most vulnerable and help create the conditions for every child to learn, grow, and live with dignity.
In Andriaka, many children face serious barriers to education, including poverty, distance, overcrowded classrooms, limited sanitation, disabilities, learning difficulties, and the vulnerability of girls. Through this project, the Redemptorist Vice-Province of Madagascar is responding with a clear conviction: education can break the vicious cycle of poverty and pave the way for a future of greater justice and opportunity.
Significant progress has been made during this first year. Classroom construction has continued, sanitation services have been improved, teachers have received support and training, and concrete measures have been adopted to improve child protection, inclusive education, and learning outcomes. The program also addresses educational poverty by strengthening reading, writing, mathematics, Malagasy, and French, while promoting “positive development” through the identification and sharing of good practices from schools and teachers achieving excellent results in challenging contexts.
The program also includes a climate resilience strategy to protect learning through safer infrastructure, improved sanitation, environmental protection, and better preparedness for cyclones, heavy rainfall, drought, and harsh weather.
This work isn’t just about buildings. It’s about children finding a place in school, girls being encouraged to continue their education, children with disabilities being welcomed and supported, and teachers being supported to help each child realize their potential.
