The young people and leaders of Redemptorist Youth Ministry from Dundalk joined with the youth of Clonard for a joyful and enriching day of faith, learning, and friendship at Clonard Monastery on 18th of August 2026.
The gathering began with a warm welcome and a series of interactive group activities, icebreakers, and games that helped participants get to know one another and build a sense of community. They also received an introduction to the history and mission of Clonard, learning more about its important place in the life of the Redemptorists and the local community.
Following the morning activities, the group set out on a walking tour along the Peace Line, gaining insight into the history and social context of Belfast. They then visited St. Comgall’s on the Falls Road, where they were warmly welcomed by the staff. During their visit, they explored the Falls Exhibition, which provided a deeper understanding of the history of the Falls area, especially during the early years of the Troubles.
The visit also offered an opportunity to reflect on the significant contribution of the Redemptorists to the peace process in Northern Ireland. The young people learned about the dedicated efforts of Fr. Alec Reid, C.Ss.R., and Fr. Gerry Reynolds, C.Ss.R., whose ministry of dialogue, reconciliation, and bridge-building helped foster understanding and contributed to the journey toward peace.
The group then continued their walk into Belfast city centre, where they visited Belfast City Hall and spent some time exploring the city. The day also provided opportunities for fellowship, conversation, and shared meals before everyone returned to Clonard to conclude the programme.
The gathering was marked by enthusiasm, friendship, and a spirit of togetherness. It was a valuable opportunity for the young people to deepen their connections with one another, learn about the rich Redemptorist heritage of service and reconciliation, and share meaningful experiences as members of Redemptorist Youth Ministry.
As the day came to an end, participants expressed gratitude for the opportunity to come together and looked forward to future events that will continue to strengthen friendships, foster faith, and build a vibrant Redemptorist Youth community.
