Over 300 participants attended the first meeting of the course, which will continue until June with monthly meetings.
On the evening of Monday, February 24, the Biblical Course began with Monsignor José Antônio Peruzzo, Archbishop of Curitiba and Doctor of Biblical Sciences, at the Shrine of Our Mother of Perpetual Help in Curitiba, Brazil. The training, consisting of five meetings, aims to deepen the knowledge of the Scriptures and is aimed primarily at pastoral agents, ecclesial movements and the faithful who wish to strengthen their journey of faith.
During the inaugural lecture, Mons. Peruzzo underlined the importance of a careful and spiritual reading of the Bible: “The Word of God illuminates our faith and our mission. The study of the Scriptures offers us the opportunity to better understand God’s call for our lives, in following Jesus Christ.”
The first meeting brought together over 300 participants, both religious and lay. Monsignor Peruzzo also praised the Redemptorist Missionaries for the initiative and highlighted the importance of faith education: “It is a great joy to see the commitment of the Redemptorist Missionaries in proposing this formative itinerary to the faithful. Deepening one’s knowledge of the Sacred Scriptures is an essential commitment to strengthen one’s faith and Christian witness.”
Father Joaquim Parron, CSsR, Redemptorist missionary, emphasized that this formation is part of a broader path promoted by the Shrine of Perpetual Help: “The course with Monsignor Peruzzo is part of the training itinerary that we are promoting to strengthen the biblical and spiritual knowledge of the faithful. Our commitment is to offer training meetings like this one in the Shrine of the Mother of Perpetual Help so that everyone can deepen their faith and grow in the Christian journey.”
The meeting was greatly appreciated by the participants. Conceição Barindelli, Minister of the Eucharist of the Shrine, shared her experience: “The first lesson on the Gospel of Luke offered us an enriching introduction, revealing the evangelist’s profound Mariological perspective. Bishop Peruzzo introduced the training in a dynamic way, situating and defining Luke’s territories in an engaging manner. He also highlighted Luke’s care for women and the elderly, as well as providing a panoramic view of the two volumes he wrote, arousing in us even more interest for the next meeting.”
The Biblical Course is part of the educational program of the School of Faith, promoted by the Sanctuary of Perpetual Help, which offers numerous educational activities, including courses on liturgy, spirituality and studies on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the Documents of the Second Vatican Council. This commitment to ongoing training strengthens the evangelizing mission of the Redemptorist Missionaries, offering the faithful an environment of welcome and learning.
