Burkina Faso: Highlights of the Canonical visit of the General Government in the Vice Province of West Africa

The visit of the General Government to the Vice-province of West Africa (Africa d’Ouest) began on February 4. This article reports the continuation of the visit, which will end on March 14.

The fraternal visit is proceeding smoothly according to the planned program. After Sunday’s rest, our confreres Paul Vinh and Noël Sottima headed to eastern Burkina Faso, specifically to Fada N’Gourma, on Monday morning. Saint Alphonse house warmly welcomed them on Monday afternoon, February 10, 2025. The groups and confreres that make up this community met with the visitors. First, the pre-postulant group, followed by the Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours Archconfraternity group. Tuesday was dedicated to individual meetings with the confreres. On Wednesday, the visitors met with the Vicar General of the Fada N’Gourma diocese, Abbot Théophile TINDANO, before visiting the Notre Dame de la Paix Primary School, a Redemptorist structure. In the afternoon of Wednesday, they left for Diabo, at the Redemptoristine Monastery of Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours.

The canonical visitors of the general government in Tibga

Fathers Paul Vinh and Noël Sottima, accompanied by Father Basile SAWADOGO, went to Tibga on Thursday, January 13, 2025. They met with the confreres who take care of the spiritual needs of the people in the parish of Saint John the Baptist in Tibga. They also had a meeting with the parish pastoral council.

In Tibga, there is talk of promoting women for various skills building projects. Thus, there is a Redemptorist center that offers young girls the opportunity to learn sewing, weaving, hairdressing, etc. The visitors witnessed this center during their visit. The parish of Tibga is experiencing insecurity due to the threats caused by the terrorism. There are several chapels that are closed, and internally displaced people are being welcomed.

After visiting the Redemptoristines at Christ the Redeemer Monastery in Kiri and the lay associates of this monastery, the visitors proceeded to the Mater Christi Center, where Father Jacques AHOLOU, is the current director of the center. The visit to Mater Christi took place with the guidance of Father Jacques AHOLOU.

The Redemptorist community of Léna welcomed the fraternal visit of the General Government on Wednesday, February 19. This community has two missions: pastoral animation of the Most Holy Redeemer Parish and management of the Agro-Sylvo-Pastoral Center. Fathers Paul Vinh and Noël Sottima, accompanied by Basile Sawadogo, Vice-Provincial Secretary, were warmly welcomed.

After the customary greetings, several meetings were organized: a community meeting, individual meetings with confreres, and finally, meetings with lay collaborators and the Parish Council of Laity.

After visiting all the communities in Burkina Faso, our guests headed to Côte d’Ivoire, the place where the Redemptorist mission was launched by the Spanish confreres. were warmly welcomed. Upon arrival on Friday, February 21, the Parish of Notre Dame de Lourdes in Tiébissou was the first to receive the visitors.

On Saturday, February 22, at 9:00 a.m., meetings began after the Eucharist with confreres responsible for pastoral animation. In the afternoon, Fathers Paul Vinh and Noël Sottima met with the Parish Council of Laity, lay partners, and residents of the Foyer Masculin Notre Dame du Perpétuel Secours (Redemptorist structure for students).

Still in Ivory Coast, in the Diocese of Bouaké, the visitors continue their mission. They were welcomed on Monday, February 24 by the Saint Marc de Broukro parish administered by three Redemptorist confreres.
