From January 31 to February 2, 2025, the Commission for the Shared Mission of the Bolivia-Peru Province has convened the lay and professed delegates of the 13 local Redemptorist communities of Peru. It is the first meeting at the Peruvian level after the reconfiguration, an event that marks history and projects us towards the Shared Mission.

For the first time, the lay communities of the former vice-provinces of North Peru and South Peru gathered: Piura (Sanctuary), Trujillo, Otuzco, Santa Anita, Santa Clara, Rimac, Chincha Alta, Nasca, Huanta, Cora Cora and Arequipa, all represented by their delegates, with the participation of professed members who accompany the Shared Mission in their communities. There were a total of 41 participants, welcomed by the community of Rimac in the Sanctuary “Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro.”

The meeting was structured with the methodology of “see-judge-act” starting on the first day with the presentation of each community, presenting the reality of the laity: apostolate, links with the local Redemptorist community, fruitful experiences in the Shared Mission, difficulties, and suggestions. On the second day we explored the meaning of the Shared Mission, with themes taken from the General Directory for the Shared Mission and the Manual for the Shared Mission in the Conference of Latin America and the Caribbean. On the last day, through dialogue and sharing among the delegates, we came to formulate strategies and determine concrete actions for the creation in each community of a Shared Mission team, composed of lay and professed; in the same way, each community elected a lay delegate who will be the link between the Shared Mission Commission of the province and its local community.

Cesar Torres CSsR, the coordinator of the Conference of Latin America and the Caribbean, the Provincial Father Boris Calzadilla CSsR, Father Narciso Chinguel CSsR, Father Martín Pulache CSsR and Antonio Hidalgo, a lay person from Costa Rica also participated. They presented topics such as “The Layperson in the Church and the CSsR,” the Shared Mission, the association in and for the mission, the profile of the Redemptorist, the levels of connection with the CSsR, among others to take safe and protected steps as lay associates of the Shared Mission.

We are grateful for the support of the provincial government, the members, and the lay community of the Shrine of Rimac, for their collaboration in the development of the First Meeting of Delegates of Peru for the Shared Mission of the Province of Bolivia-Peru.
