On the 16th and 17th of August 2025, the Kalunga Parish under the care of the Redemptorists in the Diocese of Rourkela joyfully hosted a two-day Youth Program with the participation of 230 young people. The program began at 10:30 a.m. on the first day with a welcome address, prayer service, and the lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the presence of Christ, the Light of the World, in the lives of the youth.
Day One – Recollection and Spiritual Enrichment
The first day was devoted to a recollection experience for the young participants. Rev. Fr. Vincent Kullu, SAC (Palottine priest), led the sessions, speaking on the role of youth in the Church and inspiring them on how they can contribute meaningfully to the mission of the Church. Following his talk and an interactive session, the youth spent time in Eucharistic Adoration for an hour, creating a space for deep prayer and reflection.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation was then celebrated, allowing many youth to encounter God’s mercy and forgiveness. The day concluded with the Holy Eucharist at 3:00 p.m., giving thanks for the graces received.
Day Two – Faith, Formation, and Fellowship
On Sunday, the second day, the youth joined the parish community for the solemn Eucharistic Celebration, presided over by Rev. Fr. Abhay Kullu, C.Ss.R. In his homily, he reflected on the power of truth, drawing from the Gospel passage where Jesus says He came not to bring peace but fire. Fr. Abhay reminded the youth that standing for the truth is often challenging and not always rewarded with garlands. He urged them to use their energy, strength, and passion not in addictions, distractions, or social media alone, but in building their studies, careers, families, society, and the Church.
After the Mass, the youth shared breakfast together. This was followed by a career guidance talk by Fr. Ajay Kumar Singh, who introduced the opportunities offered by Excellent IAS Academy and encouraged the youth to dream big and work hard to excel in life.

The day also witnessed the formation of a new youth committee for the next three years, giving the youth a fresh leadership team to guide their activities. A Bible Quiz based on the Gospel of Mark was conducted with enthusiastic participation from 30 youth.
The afternoon was filled with joy and fellowship, beginning with a delicious lunch prepared by the youth themselves. The program continued with a cultural celebration, including songs, dances, skits, games, and entertainment. Prizes were distributed to winners of various activities.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the priests, organizers, volunteers, and all the youth whose presence and active participation made the two-day celebration a meaningful and memorable experience.
