On 19th September 2025 the Redemptorist family in the Kenyan Mission, joined by Religious, lay partners, friends, and relatives, gathered with great joy at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Karen–Nairobi, to witness and celebrate the diaconate ordination of Br. Lawrence Kiseli, C.Ss.R., Br. Samuel Waswa, C.Ss.R., and Br. Patrick Otieno, C.Ss.R.
This special ordination ceremony was combined with that of twelve brothers from the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans), bringing the total number of newly ordained deacons to fifteen. The ordaining prelate was Rt. Rev. Bishop John Mbinda, C.S.Sp., Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lodwar. The solemn liturgy was concelebrated by Archbishop Hubertus van Megen, Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan, together with numerous priests from the two congregations.
Among the guests present were Fr. Fredrick Elima Wafula C.S.S.p, Provincial Superior of the Spiritans in Kenya and South Sudan, our Redemptorists Mission Superior, Fr. Titus Mutiku, C.Ss.R., the COREAM Coordinator, Fr. Noel Sottima, C.Ss.R., as well as confreres, religious men and women, and members of the laity.
In his homily, Bishop Mbinda urged the newly ordained deacons to embrace their ministry with wholehearted dedication, reminding them of the sacred responsibilities entrusted to them in service of the Word and charity. He encouraged them to live their diaconate faithfully as a foundation for priestly ministry.
On his part, the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop van Megen, congratulated the new deacons and encouraged them to rise beyond their local contexts, reminding them that their vocation calls them to be available for mission not only locally but also at the global level, in service to the Church and their respective congregations.
We give thanks to God for the gift of these new deacons to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and to the universal Church, praying that their ministry as deacons may bear much fruit for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.
