Following the joyful celebrations marking the 75th Anniversary of Novena Church, the Redemptorist Vice-Province of Malaysia-Singapore came together on 8th of September for its Assembly. It was a time of reflection on the mission, renewal of commitment, and a shared looking forward with gratitude and hope.
Fr. Rogério Gomes, C.Ss.R., Superior General, addressed the confreres with a heartfelt message. He expressed gratitude for their dedication, especially in organizing the anniversary events, and offered a reflection on Redemptorist life. He likened it to a concert, where each missionary, like a musician with a unique instrument, contributes his own tone and style. Yet together, they form a single melody, guided by the Holy Spirit, the great Maestro. This “concert of copious redemption,” he said, is the living testimony of the Redemptorist mission.
The Assembly concluded with Mass on the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, presided over by Fr. Rogério. In his homily, he reminded the community that God often chooses what is small and humble to reveal His greatness. He encouraged everyone to trust in God’s plan, even in times of uncertainty.
A highlight of the day was the declaration of Angela Wong as an oblate of the Redemptorist congregation. Having served for over four decades as a nurse and caregiver within the Redemptorist community, Angela offered her life in deeper association with their mission. Her commitment was received with joy and gratitude, a meaningful sign of the growing partnership between the Redemptorists and their lay collaborators.
