New General Consultor: Fr. Gerardo Hernández Carrasquillo, C.Ss.R.

After a process of consultation, prayer and discernment, the General Government of the Redemptorists has announced the appointment of Fr. Gerardo Hernández Carrasquillo, C.Ss.R., as new General Consultor, an election made at the session of 21 November 2025.

Fr. Gerardo belongs to the Province of Our Lady of Perpetual Help – Central America and the Caribbean and, until now, served as Executive Secretary for Formation for the entire Congregation. With a spirit of availability and service, he assumes this new responsibility for the rest of the current six-year term (2022-2028).

Brief biography

Fr. Gerardo Hernández Carrasquillo was born on 15 January 1965 in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He entered religious life in the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, making his first profession on 1 August 1985 and his perpetual profession on 1 August 1990. He was ordained a priest on 18 December 1992.

Throughout more than three decades of service in the Congregation, he has assumed various pastoral and formative responsibilities. He has been a member of the Provincial Secretariat of Formation of the then Province of San Juan (1996–2010) and Master of Novices (2002–2003). He was also a member of the Extraordinary Council of San Juan from 2002 to 2010 and from 2015 to 2019, and exercised his pastoral ministry as parish priest (2005–2007; 2015–2019). He was subsequently elected Provincial Superior of the Redemptorists of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic for the period 2019–2023 and, since 2023, has served in Rome as Executive Secretary for Formation.

The Congregation and the entire Redemptorist family express their best wishes to Fr. Gerardo in this new mission and entrust his service to the Most Holy Redeemer, that He may accompany and sustain him with abundant blessings.
