A historic event unfolded at Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Anjal Nagar, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, after 51 years. It was the consecration of the new Stations of the Cross, on 19 March 2026, which was a grand celebration.
The Glory of the Stations of the Cross: The Stations of the Cross is not just a ritual; it’s a powerful devotion that brings before us Jesus Christ’s journey to Calvary, transforming our hearts. It helps us understand Christ’s sacrifice, find comfort in sufferings, and live a life of conversion, compassion, and forgiveness. It inspires us to worship and thank God, saying, “We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, for by your holy Cross, you have redeemed the world.”
The Majesty of the Cross: Meditating on Jesus’ passion helps us make preparation for our sins. Following Jesus, who carried the cross, strengthens our faith journey. It guides those facing hardships to find peace, strength, and comfort at the foot of the cross.
Spiritual Journey: Walking the Stations of the Cross on Fridays and every day during Lent, praying on an important occasion as one family leads us to conversion. Christ’s wounds heal our wounds, making it a spiritual pilgrimage, not just a devotion.
Consecration of the Stations of the Cross: The new Stations of the Cross was consecrated by Most Rev. Dr. Antonysamy Savarimuthu, D.D., D.C.L., the Archbishop of Madurai. There were good number of Priests belonging to Redemptorists, other Religious Orders and the Diocesan Clergy participated in the celebration.
The ‘spiritual dream or longing of having permanent Stations of the Cross was realized through the zeal of the Parish Priest and the Redemptorists. The Parish Priest designed the Stations beautifully, fulfilling the parishioners’ long wait. Some families contributed generously, joining the cause. Sweets were distributed to all the faithful after Mass.
With hearts full of gratitude and spirits renewed, we look forward to the next blessing of God. We thank God for all the blessings and fond memories of our Parish community.
