The Redemptoristine Monastery of Scala experienced a day of great joy with the solemn profession of Sister Teresa Ruggiero, OSsR, who professed perpetual vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. The celebration took place in the Cathedral of Scala, packed with family, faithful, and friends, on Saturday, June 13. Archbishop Michele Autuoro, Metropolitan Archbishop of Benevento presided over the liturgical celebration.
Originally from Angri (province of Salerno) and now forty-four years old, Sister Teresa entered the monastery in 2018, beginning a journey of formation accompanied by the community, and on May 31, 2021, she made her temporary profession. Five years later, her solemn profession was the definitive moment of her integration into the community, the step with which Sister Teresa irrevocably consecrated herself to God for her entire life.
The celebration, preceded by a community prayer vigil, was marked by moments of deep emotion: the newly professed nun’s granddaughter placed the ring, symbolizing her spousal union with Christ, at the altar. After the bishop’s blessing, it was handed over to Sister Teresa. Another sign of joy during the celebration, experienced by the Redemptorist community, occurred during the offertory, when the gifts to the altar were carried in procession by nuns from Burkina Faso and Madagascar. They performed a traditional dance from their homelands, a living testimony to the universal and intercultural dimension of the Redemptorist community.
After Mass, the solemn profession celebration moved to the monastery courtyard, where Sr. Teresa received good wishes from her community members, family, and friends, in a joyful atmosphere that continued for a long time. For all present, the profession was a sign of the beauty of life with Christ and a sign of hope for new vocations for the Order of the Most Holy Redeemer and for the entire Redemptorist family.
