On June 28th, the 80th anniversary of the canonical establishment of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Barranquilla was celebrated. The festivities were preceded by a solemn novena in which groups, apostolic movements, and residents of the parish’s various sectors paid homage to the mother of our Redeemer.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is the first parish the Redemptorist missionaries received in Colombia. For eight decades they have revitalized pastoral work and made the parish an important landmark in the Archdiocese of Barranquilla.
In preparation for the feast, various activities were held to encourage the participation of those involved in parish life. The motto that motivated the faithful was: “Pilgrims of hope, following in the footsteps of the Redeemer.”
The Archbishop of Barranquilla, Monsignor Pablo Emiro Salas, a large number of Redemptorists, and several priests from the archdiocese were present at the feast day Mass. After Mass, a luncheon (fellowship meal) was served for special guests.
This celebration marks the beginning of a new decade in which the Redemptorist community and the faithful commit themselves to making the parish:
- A place of pilgrimage.
- A space for evangelization.
- A place for human development.
We are aware that as pilgrims of hope we will follow in the footsteps of the Redeemer and be authentic missionary disciples.
