The Redemptorist Youth Convention, held from the 21st to 23rd of May 2025 at Kalunga Parish, was a vibrant and spiritually enriching gathering of 218 young participants from four parishes: Kalunga, Burigora, Kemtatoli, and Pandripani. The theme of the convention, “Friendship and Relationship among the Youth”, was thoughtfully chosen to reflect the needs and concerns of the young people in today’s complex and rapidly changing society.

The convention began on the 21st of May with a grand and warm welcome extended to all the guests and participants. A traditional foot-washing ceremony was conducted to welcome the guests with humility and reverence, symbolizing service and respect. This was followed by a colourful and graceful welcome dance performed by the youth, which added a festive spirit and set a joyful tone for the event.

The second day of the convention, 22nd May, began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. The Mass was presided over by Fr. Abhay Kullu, C.Ss.R, who in his homily, inspired the youth with the life and example of St. Alphonsus Liguori, the founder of the Redemptorist Congregation. Fr. Abhay emphasized how St. Alphonsus reached out to the youth of his time, encouraging them to live lives of holiness, mercy, joy, and love. He reminded the participants that they are not alone in this wounded and broken world—the Church is with them, and the Redemptorist family walks with them. His message was a powerful call to missionary discipleship rooted in compassion and community.

Following the Mass, the youth gathered to listen to Fr. George Kindo, C.Ss.R, who delivered a dynamic talk on the theme of friendship. He spoke about the importance of building healthy, life-giving relationships based on mutual respect, trust, and values. He cautioned against toxic friendships and encouraged the youth to be friends who uplift, support, and guide each other towards a meaningful life in Christ.

In the afternoon, the youth participated in a lively and meaningful debate session focused on the impact of media on relationships and youth identity. The participants expressed their views with clarity and conviction, addressing both the benefits and challenges of media use in the modern world. This interactive session helped them to reflect critically and develop informed opinions.

Later in the day, the youth showcased dramatized life stories of St. Clement Hofbauer and St. Gerard Majella. These skits brought alive the inspiring lives of these youthful saints who remained faithful to God amidst trials, serving others with humility and joy. The performances were moving and spiritually uplifting, leaving a deep impression on all present.

As the day drew to a close, the participants gathered for an hour of adoration, spending time in silent prayer and worship before the Blessed Sacrament. This sacred time allowed the youth to experience the loving presence of Jesus and to deepen their relationship with Him. The day ended with a festive traditional Sailo dance, celebrating the joy of being together as one family in Christ.

The event was organized and participated by several dedicated Redemptorist fathers, including Fr. Samir Kujur, C.Ss.R, Zonal Coordinator of North India, Fr. Ranjit Minz, C.Ss.R, Fr. George Kindo, C.Ss.R, Fr. Promod Tigga, C.Ss.R, Fr. Abhay Kullu, C.Ss.R, and Fr. Camil Dungdung, C.Ss.R. Their support and guidance were invaluable in making the convention a success, and their presence helped foster a strong sense of community among the youth.

On the final day, 23rd May, the youth engaged in an evaluation session, sharing their experiences and providing suggestions for future programs. A youth committee was formed to ensure better coordination and active participation in upcoming events. The convention concluded with final remarks, words of encouragement, and a blessing for safe journeys home.

This youth convention was a remarkable success, blending faith formation, cultural celebration, and community building. It has left a lasting impact on the hearts of the youth, strengthening their bonds of friendship and igniting a renewed commitment to live as witnesses of God’s love in their daily lives.
