In line with the pastoral plan of the Redemptorist Youth and Vocation Ministry (RYVM) in Nigeria—which identifies the deepening of faith and growth in Redemptorist spirituality among young people as a central priority—RYVM Nigeria held a well-attended online catechetical session on the evening of February 22, 2026.

The virtual gathering brought together over one hundred young people from across the country in a shared moment of formation and reflection. The session was moderated by Blessing Itoha, a lay member of the RYVM National Youth Commission, who facilitated an engaging and participatory atmosphere throughout the event.

The catechesis was led by Fr. Benedict Temitope Adu, CSsR, National RYVM Animator, who delivered a presentation on the structure of the Holy Mass. In a manner that was   both simple and profound, he walked participants through the various parts of the Eucharistic celebration, shedding light on the symbolism and theological significance embedded within each moment of the liturgy. The presentation resonated strongly with the youth, many of whom expressed a renewed appreciation for the depth and beauty of the Mass.

Following the talk, participants engaged in an interactive question-and-answer session, raising a variety of questions that reflected both their curiosity and some common misunderstandings regarding the celebration of the Eucharist. The discussion provided an opportunity for clarification and deeper insight, further enriching the learning experience.

Also present at the session was the Vice Provincial Superior, Fr. Michael Emerue, CSsR, who offered words of encouragement to the young people and concluded the gathering with a blessing.

Fr. Godwin Abbah, CSsR, Chairperson of the RYVM Commission in Nigeria, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who participated and contributed to the success of the event. Special appreciation was extended to Fr. Pascal Tiendrebeogo, CSsR, of the Vice Province of West Africa, who served as translator for French- speaking participants who were unable to join the session in real time.

This online catechetical initiative marks another significant step in RYVM Nigeria’s commitment to forming young people in the faith and fostering a deeper encounter with Christ through the rich spiritual and liturgical heritage of the Church.
